Load securing means securing cargo against sliding, tipping and falling during the journey. In Germany, Section 22 of the Road Traffic Regulations (StVO) requires loads to be stowed and secured so they do not shift even under emergency braking or sudden evasive manoeuvres.
Responsibility: driver, vehicle keeper and loader – depending on their role.
Means: lashing straps, anti-slip mats, locking bars, form-fit loading; technical rules such as VDI 2700.
Costs: poor securing leads to fines, bans on continuing and liability – time and materials for securing belong in the costing.
