The German truck toll (Lkw-Maut) is a distance-based charge in cents per kilometre that has applied since 1 July 2024 to vehicles with a technically permissible maximum mass above 3.5 t. The rate is made up of infrastructure, air pollution, noise and CO2 cost components.
What the rate depends on: weight class, emission class (e.g. Euro 5 or Euro 6), CO2 emission class and – above 18 t – the number of axles.
Exemptions: vehicles of craft businesses are exempt under certain conditions.
Why it matters for costing: after fuel and driver pay, tolls are often the largest variable cost of a trip. Logist Calculator calculates them per country on the route for the chosen vehicle (3.5 t, 7.5 t or 40 t) and emission class.
