The ECMT permit (CEMT in German and French) is a multilateral licence for hire-and-reward international road haulage between the more than 40 member countries of the International Transport Forum (ITF). It replaces bilateral permits between these countries.
What it allows: carriage between, through and into member countries; cabotage is not allowed.
Types: annual permits and short-term permits for 30 days, issued by national authorities (BALM in Germany).
Vehicles: only low-emission vehicles are allowed (Euro V/EEV/Euro VI 'safe') with the corresponding certificates.
