Detention (Standgeld in German) is the compensation a carrier can claim when it has to wait beyond the agreed loading or unloading time. In Germany the claim is set out in Section 412(3) of the Commercial Code (HGB).
Condition: the waiting is based on a contractual agreement or on reasons outside the carrier's sphere of risk.
Amount: the law speaks of reasonable remuneration; in practice, rates per hour or per started day are agreed in the contract.
