The SSCC (Serial Shipping Container Code) is a globally unique 18-digit number under the GS1 standard that identifies a logistic unit, such as a pallet.
Use: the SSCC appears as a barcode on the pallet label and is scanned at loading, transhipment and goods receipt.
Benefit: shipment tracking and automatic booking at the consignee.
For carriers: many retail chains require SSCC labels; missing or wrong labels cause waiting time at the dock.
