FTL (Full Truck Load) is a shipment that fills a vehicle on its own; LTL (Less Than Truck Load) is a part load that shares the load space with other shipments. LCL (Less than Container Load) is the equivalent for sea containers.
Pricing: FTL is usually priced per trip or per kilometre, LTL by loading metre, pallet space or weight.
Example: 12 Euro pallets take 4.8 of the 13.6 loading metres of a semi-trailer (about 35%). As a part load, the price should cover at least that share of the trip cost – plus a margin for detours and waiting time.
